A slightly different post tonight — this drawing is a sneak peek of my new project! Stolen, borrowed or handed down — IStoleThisFromYou.com is a collection of all your precious things and the stories behind them. My most prized possessions are the ones soaked in personal history — a bolt of ikat fabric I whisked away from my grandmother’s dusty armoire in a small Thai fishing town; Chinese coins my grandfather gave me, so old and worn there are actually holes in the metal; and of course, Mom’s bowling shoes, as depicted above.
But yes, there is nothing I love more than hearing these sort of stories from other people. In an over-commodified culture, where way too much emphasis is placed on marketing new things and desiring new things and buying new things and showing off new things — it’s the old, personal relics, the hand-me-downs, the stolen tokens, that actually capture my heart.
This is what I hope to catalog over there, and I will want stories from YOU! But it’s just a soft-launch for now, more details to come over the next few weeks, so stay tuned! (And actually, it’s on Tumblr too, so follow it for the most up-to-date information!)
Hope you all had a lovely weekend, and thank you as always for your kindness, it’s what keeps me going. XXX!
Best episode ever.
